History of Mt. Rose

Mt. Rose Reformed OPC began as a group of believers in the late 1990’s interested in starting a Reformed and Presbyterian congregation in Reno (where there was none at the time).

In 2005, after four years as a daughter church of Spring Meadows Presbyterian Church (PCA), the congregation became a mission work of the Presbytery of Northern California and Nevada of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC). That year Rev. Andy Preston, formerly serving an OPC congregation in Eureka, CA, began to serve Mt. Rose as her pastor. Rev. Preston served faithfully for 13 years, retiring in 2018.

In 2020, Rev. Scott Johnson was called to serve as the next pastor of Mt. Rose. He arrived early that year with his family from Alaska, where he had served as the pastor of Grace OPC (Wasilla, AK) since 2007.

When we consider God’s faithfulness to us over the years, we are blessed and encouraged by His care and provision for our congregation. And we are excited to see how the Lord will work among us and through us in the years to come.
