The first commandment confronts our idol-making hearts. Though false gods have no ultimate reality, idolatry is painfully real when we give our love and trust to created things rather than to the Creator revealed in Jesus. Christ’s redemption frees us from that slavery and summons us to wholehearted worship, obedience, and life lived by faith.
Our fellowship in Christ is a true sanctuary—a safe place of friendship and mutual care where, like Moses and Jethro, we are knitted together by a common faith and find refuge from the struggles of life. It is also a holy place, for when we commune with one another in Christ—especially around His table—we meet not only each other but the Lord Himself, who perfects our love and makes our fellowship a foretaste of heaven.
