The most important thing about a Christian is not merely that his sins are forgiven or that he will go to heaven when he dies, wonderful as those truths are. The greatest thing is that, by the grace of God, he has become a worshiper of the true God. And that worship is not just something we do with our lips on Sunday morning; God also calls us to present our whole lives as a living sacrifice, offering ourselves to him in thankful devotion.
God calls His people to worship Him, not because worship originates from us, but because He initiates it by His holy summons. Through the covenant made with Israel and fulfilled in Christ’s sacrifice, we are invited to draw near to God with confidence, covered by the perfect blood of Jesus.
The name of God is not a mere label but the living symbol of His character. To speak it thoughtlessly, use it as a slogan, or attach it to false promises is to reduce the holy to the hollow and thus “take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
The second commandment tells us that no image can capture the infinite God. God is spirit and cannot be contained by gold, stone, or human imagination. Attempts to depict Him reduce the living God to a lifeless thing and mislead the heart. True worship is offered in spirit and truth so that we worship God as he is, not as our images of him make him to be.

After the Lord miraculously delivered Israel at the Red Sea, Moses and the whole congregation broke their silence to sing a new song of thanksgiving, praising God for who He is, what He had done, and the promises yet to come.
