Coveting is a heart problem that leads to slavery. When we give ourselves over to desires for what others have, we become slaves to those longings. The story of Ahab and Naboth warns us how such desires can consume us and bring ruin.

Lying is not just about outright falsehoods; it includes gossip, slander, and rash judgments that damage others unjustly. True obedience to this commandment means speaking truth in love, building up rather than tearing down, reflecting God’s character of truth in every word we speak.
The eighth commandment, “You shall not steal,” extends far beyond taking physical possessions; it calls us to recognize that all we have is ultimately God’s and to live as faithful stewards who share generously and live honestly. As sinners who have fallen short by robbing both our neighbors and God, we find mercy and hope in Christ, who restores us and calls us to belong wholly to Him in gratitude and obedience.
